Don’t be afraid of this trend. It’s an easy and inexpensive way to liven up your closet. If you have a:

  • Great upper body – you were made for this trend. No fear! Put it on and walk out the door.
  • Thick neckline – opt for longer pieces and layer them down your body.
  • Petite – Big not huge. Smaller embellishents, beads and links. Never longer than the underwire of your bra.

Good ideas for lingerie for a bridal shower gift.

April 9, 2009

“Wondering if you have any good tips or leads on lingerie for bridal showers…  I have three coming up!  Looking for high quality, fun stuff that is not too expensive.  VS has some cute stuff, but I’d like to get a little more creative than that!  =)” Aimee G.

Yes Aimee Victoria Secret is good…I think Nordstroms is better specifically the Nordstrom Wedding shop http://shop.nordstrom.com/C/6005509/0~2376776~2374327~6005464~6005509?viewall=1&cm_ven=google&cm_cat=wedding&cm_pla=brides_lingerie&cm_ite=wedding%20lingerie

I love a Chemise – so feminine, pretty and something she can use after the wedding night.

Make sure you select a piece that fits her style – not yours! If she is conservative…a sheer lace embellished animal print won’t be a good fit. And if she’s real sexy and daring – a sweet baby doll will certainly be returned.

Here are a few that are sexy, classy and beautiful:

Oscar de la Renta – http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2994333/0~2376776~2374327~6010810~6011776?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6011776&P=1

 Elle Macpherson -http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3006020/0~2376776~2374327~6010810~6011776?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6011776&P=1

Also give TJ Maxx a shot. Sometimes they have really beautiful pieces.

I lOVE WHITE!

April 3, 2009

White denim – is white HOT! The best part about white jeans is that you get white pants…but not the sheer, see-through problem!

AHHH Leopard, Zebra…

November 21, 2008

I love leopard and zebra…and a little giraffe every once and awhile!

When done right is is the ultimate style statement…but when it’s wrong – it is JUST BAD!

There are a couple of rules with animal print you need to abide by:

  1. Only one animal print piece per ensemble. And most definitely do not mix prints such as zebra and leopard.
  2. Quality is critial. Do not go cheap with fabrics, stitching or fit.

Keep is clean and sleek!

Holiday Style

November 6, 2008

OK my latest article just hit the street…Holiday Style! The November issue of Southlake Style…to see it in action please visit:

http://stylishshe.com/stylecolumn.html or http://www.southlakestyle.com/imag/November2008/start.htm

The Holidays…yup they are right around the corner! So let’s talk about what you’re going to wear. Here are my top trends that translate well to holiday fashion:

Trend #1: Purple – Lush, rich, juicy, deep, delicious – PURPLE- it is the ‘it’ color this season and the ultimate style statement

Trend #2: Jewel Tones – Saturated, rich, autumn hues are everywhere. The best part is you choose the best color that works on you! Don’t be afraid of color. Color exudes confidence and color reflects this season’s style.

Trend #3: Feminine- Romantic, beautiful, soft and flowing…ruffles, feathers, lace, pleating and bows are ultra feminine. It looks like you dipped into your lingerie chest. So sexy, so frilly, so girly!

Trend #4: Art Prints – So modern, they could have been taken right from the gallery at The Museum of Modern Art. Think about it as sexy wearable art.

Trend #5: Gray – Oh so simple, but oh so elegant. Think of all shades of gray even out to metallic. They all work so seamlessly!

Trend #6: Winter Floral- The beautiful, bold floral options offer everything from bold and graphc to breezy and pretty this season.

Trend #7 – Leopard: Oh I love leopard. It is a trend we have seen season over season and year after year. Leopard is bold and super chic.

So when you are shopping for your holiday fashions, remember to Shop Smart, Spend Wisely and always be STYLISH!

“Sarah Palin’s stylist…”

October 25, 2008

As per the Washington (AP) – “Palin stylist draws higher pay then policy adviser” Amy Strozzi, who is famous for her work with ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ has been Palin’s traveling styist. Now get this – according to campaign financial reports she was paid $22,800 for the 1st 2 wks in Oct AND McCains foreign policy advisor was paid $12,550 – WOW! STROZZI WAS PAID 80% MORE THAN THE FOREIGN POLICY ADVISOR — 80%!!!

On top of that in Sept. the Republican National Committee spent about $150K for wardrobe and cosmetics – after Palin joined the ticket!

This is a VERY POWERFUL message and true demonstration that - IMAGE MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

Thoughts?

VintageShe – bags

October 17, 2008

The bags are so beautiful. I personally love the embroidered and beaded ones. You just can’t find bags like that today – at least not inexpensivley!
There is nothing better than having a fun outfit – dressy or casual – and wearing a hip, cool vintage bag on your arm. When done right super chic.
But there are some tips you must keep in mind:
Tip: Make sure that there are no obvoius stains on the outside of the bag. Yellow, dirty stains will just make the bag look old and dirty – not the goal.
Tip: Check the lining for rips. Minimal rips are repairable – at little cost. But do check with your seamstress.
Tip: Beaded bags can also be repaired – but this is where it can get really pricey. If there are beads missing, make sure that it is a small amount. Think of it this way, if you purchase a beaded bag for a great price but it needs repair, you don’t want to have to spend 2x – 5x – or worst 10x the cost on the repair, right? Not a bargin! If you do find a great vintage bag see if the store has a return policy. If not ask if they would extend a return policy to you so that you could take the bag to a seamstress to estimate the cost of the repair. It doesn’t hurt to ask. And if vintage bags are something you love and want more of, go to your seamstress and him/her map out costs for work done. This way you will know what to expect if you do have to repair a bag.
Happy shopping!
And
Do you have any other tips for me?

Lipstick Jungle

October 17, 2008

OK – I love this show. To me it feels like the new Sex and the City. So did you know on the NBC website you can actually view and find out where to purchase the items they adorn on each episode! Very cool.

And even better yet you can search by character http://www.nbc.com/Lipstick_Jungle/exclusives/seen_on/. My favorite characters style is Nico. Classic but super chic with a touch of edgy-ness…Meow! I covet her jewelry, handbags and shoes the most.

Who is your favorite and what do you salivate for?

VintageShe – Jewelry

October 17, 2008

OH it’s my favorite. They just don’t make rhinestone eveningwear that that anymore…for the price. I love to watch the trends in fashion and then seek out vintage pieces that fit the trend, but are unique in their own right. For example, the whole pin/broach craze that was further validated by Sarah Jessica Parker in GAP – do you remember that campaign? – when she was adorned with all kinds of gorgeous broaches. To me this was the perfect way to expand the offering of vintage in my jewelry box. Not only could I get gorgeous pins, small, medium, large, rhinestone, colored stones, etc. and I could do it quite inexpensively.

Tip: Antique stores are loaded with pins and you can snag them for as little as $8.00. I purchased a huge 6” x 5” butterfly pin that features many colorful prong-set stones and a great deal of detail for $60.00! There really are HUGE opportunities and beautiful pieces to be found.

Tip: Make sure you really inspect vintage jewelry. Check that the clasps work properly, that the settings or prongs are flat and smooth. Fully inspect each stone for inclusions, chips, or cracks. And watch for loose stones. It is not a good deal if the stones fall out the first time you wear it.

Try to: Take vintage clip earrings and wear them all over…how about the top of your shoes, or if your wearing Capri’s, a skirt or dress and wearing sling-backs…right on the strap. How about your belt loop. Or on the strap of a cami. One adorable look is to wear a narrow body poncho, diagonal with one arm out and put the clip earrings stacked (one, two, or three – they all don’t have to be the same) on the strap of the cami.

Tip: You can take those clip and screw back earrings to the jeweler and have them converted to posts, French wire or lever-back. But remember the quality of the piece….don’t spend the money on a cheap pair!

Tell me about your favorite Vintage pieces…

VintageShe – Fur

October 17, 2008

Vintage Furs – Buying vintage can be a very cost effective way of getting that fur you want.

Tip: If you buy a fur at a discount or off-price store make sure you look at the stitching. You don’t want it if it is cracked or dry. Also inspect it well and be sure there are no rips or cigarette burn marks. Take your time and inspect every inch of it. If it does have a rip either on the fur or lining…it can be repaired. The longer or more extreme the rip, typically the more money it is to repair. If it is ripped off the seam…be careful. This can be a very expensive repair. But if it on the lining, you can have it re-lined…see next tip…

Tip: Bring that old fur to a furrier and have them clean and re-line it; sometimes if you relining they will embroider you name on the inside at no charge. This is a very SavvyShe way of getting your own personalized fur at a fraction of the cost.
